Youngest member of the Hull Male Voice Choir to sing at the Royal Albert Hall

Fourteen year old Robin Datta, a Year 9 pupil at Hull Collegiate School, will be singing in the Festival of Brass and Voices 2009 concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 31 October 2009. The concert is in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Robin is the youngest member of the Hull Male Voice Choir, which he joined in January 2009 after attending their pre-Christmas concert to watch his sister playing a flute descant. Robin will be the youngest person to have sung with the massed choir at the Royal Albert Hall, which consists of 900 males, 700 ladies, a 200 piece brass band and an organist.

Robin is from a musical background. He plays clarinet and piano, as well as the Indian sitar and tabla. His sister, Anita, who is a Year 12 pupil at Hull Collegiate School, is a Grade 8 pianist and flautist. Anita also plays piccolo, sitar and tabla and studies the organ under the guidance of the Musical Director of the Male Voice Choir.

Robin attained both the Academic and Music Scholarships on entry to the Senior School in 2007, where he joined from the Prep School. He is an active member of the school choirs and the Gramophones - a Barber Shop style singing group - as well as playing in the windband and senior orchestra.
