Year 2 pupils spent the day at The Deep on Wednesday 20 January. All the pupils took part in a Literacy workshop which involved digging for lost treasure, building story settings, cracking riddles and identifying different shells.
The objective of the workshop was to look at story planning through play and the multi-activity workshop provided a stimulus for imaginative writing. After choosing a piece of treasure to feature in the tropical tale, the pupils then decided on the characters and setting which they wanted to use in their stories.
The afternoon was spent exploring The Deep itself, watching a dive presentation and then watching a 3D film about Monsters of the Deep. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day and wrote some fantastic stories when they returned to school.
Here are some comments made by the pupils about their visit:
"I enjoyed going back to The Deep and seeing my friend the Stingray” - Evan Chapman
"I liked all the different fish because they were colourful” - Henry Cannell
“The best bit was using all the toys and hiding the treasure when we were building the story scene” - Harry Markham
Year 2 will be returning to The Deep in the Spring and this day will focus on Science and Maths.
