Year 11 pupils interview Hull City defender, Steve Mouyokolo - in French!

This week fourteen lucky Year 11 pupils visited the KC Stadium to interview a French-speaking Hull City player in his native language. The player was Steven Mouyokolo, one of the team’s defenders.

The interview took place in the KC Stadium media suite where all the post-match interviews are conducted. The pupils, who are all taking GCSE French, asked a wide range of interesting questions which they had prepared beforehand in class. Focussing largely on his football background and how he prepared before a match, the pupils also managed to slip in one or two more serious questions,  such as his opinion of the French President Sarkozy!

Afterwards, the group was treated to a tour of the stadium, including the changing rooms, tunnel, VIP suite and the Manager’s area. The interview was also filmed by a representative from Hull City.

"‘Pupils were excited at the prospect of using their knowledge of French to conduct an interview with a local player," said Mr Stephenson, Head of Modern Languages at Hull Collegiate School who organised the visit. "The interview was a very successful activity and our pupils managed to use a high level of language in a meaningful and productive manner. Activities such as this are great to boost pupil motivation as it allows the pupils to apply the language they learn in the classroom in a practical context."
