The Duchess of Kent gave the choirs of Hull Collegiate School and the Hull Youth Choir a standing ovation on Saturday 22 May. The music concert at Holy Trinity Church, a collaboration between Hull City Council's Music Service and Hull Collegiate School was organised to raise much needed funds for the Duchesses’ charity, “Future Talent”. A grand total of £2,135 was raised by the concert, which was attended by the Duchess of Kent, the Lady Mayor, Karen Woods, members of the public and families and friends of the performers.
The eclectic programme comprised:
City of Hull Youth Choir
City of Hull String Quintet
The evening was an outstanding success and the performers were given a standing ovation by the Duchess of Kent and the audience. The quality of the music was phenomenal and the concert provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the huge talent of Hull's young singers and musicians.
"I arrived expecting a typical school production but instead, I was rewarded by an outstanding concert!" said one grandmother.
The Duchess of Kent set up the Future Talent charity which encourages and supports talented musical youngsters. Founded in 2004, the primary aim of Future Talent is to find, fund and nurture musically gifted individuals aged between 5 and 18 who do not have the means or the opportunity to advance their musicianship. From provision of an instrument to the funding of private tuition or a special course, the charity is committed to providing the natural stepping stones to help talented young musicians aim high.
