Eleanor is The Journal charity Christmas card competition winner

Eleanor Tomlinson, in Year 9, has just won age the 12-18 category of The Journal / OSPREY design-a-Christmas card competition, which featured in the October and November editions of The Journal. Eleanor used a mixed media of watercolours and acrylics to design her card which depicts a robin on a branch.

“I nearly didn’t enter the competition but my mum said I should,” said Eleanor, who celebrated her 14th birthday last week. She continued, "I had a spare afternoon before we went away on holiday at half-term so I quickly painted the card. I’m very glad I did now. I will be choosing my new bike this weekend and I’m a bit nervous about having my photograph taken for The Journal, but I’m also looking forward to it too.”

In her winner’s notification letter, Mr Roy Woodcock, editor of The Journal, said “The standard of artwork we had to judge was very high, but your design was considered truly outstanding and a worthy winner.”

Mr Rogerson, Head of Art, said “We are delighted for Eleanor.  This is a fantastic reward for the time and effort she puts into her work.  Eleanor is a very talented pupil with a lot of potential in Art.”

Eleanor has won a new bicycle up to the value of £250 from cycle specialist Cliff Pratt Ltd and her design will feature on OSPREY’s official Christmas cards this year.  The judging panel included the editor of The Journal, Mr Roy Woodcock, and Syd Howey Treasurer of OSPREY

OSPREY was founded by Professor David Purdie and the late Sheila Chetham in 1994 and has a renowned reputation for organising superb events to fund research. So far Osprey has raised over £1.4 million through fundraising and donations, part of which is used to fund research scholarships at the University of Hull.

Eleanor’s Christmas card will be on sale through OSPREY and will also be available to buy at the Friends of Hull Collegiate School Christmas Fair on Saturday 3 December, 11 am to 2pm.
