BBC School Report

BBC School Report 2012 kicked off this morning with a paper review on BBC Radio Humberside. Ted and Lois, from Year 8, were invited into Andy Comfort’s breakfast show to review the papers.

“Everyone was very friendly,” says Ted. “Lois and I looked at today’s newspapers and then we picked out four stories which we were interested in.”

The pupils discussed the school coach crash in Switzerland, the offer rejected by the tube workers during the Olympic games, the Atlanta plane which rolled off the runway and Cheryl Cole’s rumoured signing with the BBC show, "The Voice."

“I was a little bit nervous but Andy was good at making the conversation flow. I’ve learnt the behind the scenes secrets of producing a radio show and being on the show has helped me become a bit more confident when talking in front of groups of people,” continued Ted.

Lois, also in Year 8, described her experience. “Everyone knew exactly what they were doing and were very friendly. We looked through newspapers and chose two articles each to talk about. My articles were the story about the Swiss bus crash and the  Cheryl Cole story. I chose these because I felt they were relevant to school-aged children.”

Miss Claire Foreman, Head of English, comments, "Pupils have been working hard in their English lessons learning about the different stages of the news process: how to find, gather, write, assemble and broadcast the news. The editors have been briefed and are looking forward to leading their team of journalists today."
