Transition between Year 6 and Year 7

Hull Collegiate School can provide your child with an education from the age of 3 to 18 within the same school grounds.  We believe that this places us in a unique position to ensure the continuity and consistency of their education.

Increasing use of specialist teaching, some of it by senior school teachers using their own facilities, ensures that the children are already finding their way around in a larger environment and getting used to a range of teachers, equipping them to face Year 7 with confidence.

During the Michaelmas Term we offer all our Year 6 pupils and parents the opportunity to look round the Senior School, accompanied by our Sixth Form pupils who conduct these tours.  This gives them an informal insight into daily life in the Senior School.  More focused activities and an Induction Day take place for the Year 6 pupils towards the end of the school year.

Parents are also given the opportunity to find out about life in Year 7 and the Senior School. We offer two formal events during the Lent and Trinity Terms when parents can meet members of the Senior School staff. This helps to ensure a smooth transition for both themselves and their children and provides plenty of opportunity for parents to ask questions and discuss the Senior School experience in greater detail.

"I applaud the decision to award places to internal pupils based on ongoing observation and assessment. I would imagine that it would be a far more accurate predictor of senior school suitability than one morning's testing, with all the stress that tests entail."
