Communication with Parents
Collaboration between parents and school is a high priority in the Prep School, and we have many means of communication, both formal and informal. During the academic year, we will do the following:
-
Provide you with information about various aspects of life in your child’s new class each year, including the curriculum
-
Send you weekly newsletters. These contain both accounts of recent activities in school, and a range of notices about forthcoming events. The newsletter is sent home with every child on Friday and can also be downloaded from the school website. Please contact the Admin Office if you would prefer to receive the newsletter via email
-
Provide an up-to-date and informative website where you will be able to check term dates, sports fixtures and the latest news
-
Send you text message alerts and reminders for important school events and messages
-
Provide you with the opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher at Parent Consultation Evenings twice during the year. Other members of staff, such as those teaching P.E. and Learning Support, the Head Teacher and Deputy are also available at this time
-
Send you two written reports about your child’s attainment and progress. A full report, covering all curriculum areas is sent to you at the end of the academic year, and a shorter one is written mid-year
-
Provide a means of day-to-day communication with your child’s teacher. This will vary according to the age of your child, and may take the form of a home-school diary, reading record or homework diary
-
Speak with you on the telephone if it is difficult for you to come into school. Email is increasingly becoming a useful means of communication, and a number of minor concerns are now dealt with by this method. If you need to see the Head Teacher, an appointment will be arranged at the first opportunity, often on the same day
-
Be available to speak with you personally should you have any concerns about your child’s education. Your child’s class teacher will always be happy to make an appointment to see you
Matron
The Prep School has a qualified Matron based in a cosy, comforting room in the Prep School. Pupils who feel poorly can be given a green slip by their teacher and then visit Matron. Often, a quiet few minutes is all it takes for pupils to feel better again, however parents are consulted on more serious matters. Matron is also able to administer prescribed medicines with written parental consent and each case is discussed on an individual basis.
