Below is a brief summary of the results:
Principal, Mr Rob Haworth, says: “This has been another year of consolidation for Hull Collegiate School. As the school matures, our examination results reflect the commitment of our teachers and the hard work of our pupils. I am justly proud of this year’s A Level candidates and the top tier of pupils’ grades are indicative of how the school is growing from strength to strength. There are always those pupils who will do well and our real success lies with pupils who have excelled beyond their predicted grades.
I wish our Year 13 leavers every success for the future and look forward to welcoming them back to future events as Old Collegians.”
Congratulations to all our pupils and a special mention for:
Five pupils are expected to read Medicine this year; 4 pupils have confirmed places with an additional 1 pupil taking up her place in Autumn 2010.
GCSE Results
The 2009 GCSE results reinforces the position of Hull Collegiate School as one of the best performing schools in the East Riding. There was an 89% pass rate for pupils achieving 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* - C, including English and Mathematics. This is an increase from 85% in 2008. 36% of pupils achieved A* and A grades and 93% of pupils achieved 5 or more A* to C grades.Anita Datta, who achieved 8 A* grades and 4 A grades, will now be studying 6 A Levels at Hull Collegiate School for her chosen career in Diplomacy and International Relations. Anita speaks 5 languages and was particularly pleased to be awarded an A* in French.
David Cuthbertson was delighted with his GCSE examinations results. “My results are much better than I expected, particularly in History. I got an A* and was expecting a B,” says David, who was awarded 3 A* grades, 5 A grades and 2 B grades. “I’m also surprised and delighted that I got an A in English.”
Head of English, Mr Andy Wilson, was not too surprised, however, and says, “David has worked very hard for his A grade and thoroughly deserves this success. I’m very pleased for him.”
David’s success in the Humanities is only part of his story as he now intends to study 4 science based A Levels, including Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics: all subjects in which he achieved A grades.
“Our GCSE pupils have worked very hard this year”, says Principal, Mr Rob Haworth. “The majority of pupils have achieved higher grades than predicted. Hull Collegiate is a school where individual pupils strive for their academic and personal potential and once again, our examination results show that the pupils are achieving this. One pupil averaged nearly two grades better than was expected on each of her results and there are three other pupils who averaged over one and a half grades better. In addition, at least nine pupils averaged over one grade better than predicted.”
