Duke of Edinburgh Award

Hull Collegiate School is one of only four schools in the East Riding of Yorkshire to directly participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

This is an exciting, challenging and ultimately rewarding activity which is available for Year 10 pupils and continues into the Michaelmas Term of Year 11.  Hull Collegiate School supports the Bronze Award  which is a combination of voluntary work, learning a new skill, physical activity, culminating in a 2-day expedition. The school prepares the pupils thoroughly and has a highly successful pass rate. Pupils frequently continue their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at University.

This nationally recognised scheme is beneficial for the pupils as it shows a high level of commitment to a project and enhances teamwork skills: qualities which future academic institutions and employers are looking for. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme also contributes to UCAS points.

Two staff members organise the Scheme, one of whom is a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme assessor.

We currently have 54 pupils who are working towards the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and 13 pupils working towards their Silver award. The Bronze award is offered from Year 10 onwards and the Silver award is offered from Year 12. The current cost is £50 for the Bronze award and £320 for the Silver award, which includes all training, a First Aid qualification and transport at Silver level.
