Extra-Curricular Activities

We encourage our pupils to take advantage of the many lunchtime and afterschool activities on offer each term.

Year 7 to 9 pupils must undertake a minimum of 3 activities each week. Activities range from model railway, budding authors club, sports and art clubs.

Once pupils reach Key Stage 4 and their academic commitments increase, pupils in Years 10 and 11 choose a minimum of 2 activities per week. Some examples of clubs on offer are:

  • Modern Foreign Languages. This club is organized by the Sixth Form and meets weekly in the Prep School. Run by the Sixth Form for pupils in Years 2 to 6, the club promotes the culture and language of Spain, Germany and France.
  • Reading Group. Pupils with a genuine love of books and reading have the opportunity to enjoy their hobby with like-minded people.  Author visits are regularly organized for the school each term.
  • Table Tennis. This takes place every lunch time activity slot due to its growing popularity.  Pupils take part in groups according to their year group.
  • Model Railway. This takes place in a dedicated room is very popular at lunchtimes.
  • Debating – The Debating Club practices both the parliamentary and Cambridge styles of debate.
  • Young Enterprise is offered to pupils in Year 10 and again in Year 12.  Year 10 teams compete in a mini trade fair and these winners, plus the separate Year 12 team, then go through to compete in the Hull Young Enterprise competition. Many local schools take part in this competition which promotes intitiative, business skills and marketing strategies. Successful teams then take part in the national competition and then go forward to the European competition. The school has recently introduced the Young Enterprise exam and two of our Year 10 pupils were awarded top marks in June 2009.
