Business and Economics for Advanced Performance Pupils

In Business and Economics classes more able pupils are encouraged to stretch themselves by engaging in discussions about how the theory they are learning interfaces with the world outside the classroom. Indeed the very nature of these subjects encourages pupils to develop their curiosity about the world we live in.

Every year there are a number of opportunities offered by the department for more able pupils to be involved in. Business pupils can take part in the ICAEW BASE competition, where pupils dissect a business case study and present recommendations to a team of judges. Economics pupils can attend an annual conference in London where they listen to speakers from a variety of fields discuss the economic issues of the day. Economics pupils are also given the opportunity to take part in the Bank of England’s Target 2.0 Challenge, for which they deliver a presentation on their recommendation for the level of the interest rate to a panel of Bank of England representatives.
